University of Wyoming - Master of Science in Accounting

The Department of Accounting and Finance offers Master's degrees in both Finance and Accounting disciplines. These programs share certain business courses, but programs in the accounting program focus on reporting financial details while the financial degree emphasizes the analysis and planning of these activities.

Core topics covered in the accounting program include advanced levels of auditing, taxation, and financial accounting. Along with reporting concepts, students will gain the written and oral communication skills needed to thrive when working on teams or presenting information to stakeholders.

This program can be completed in just one year with full-time enrollment in three semesters and prepares students for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam for state licensure. Graduates have gone on to work at national government agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, or hold budget analysis or auditing jobs at private or nonprofit companies.

Prospective students will need to hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher, or similar with core accounting courses. This must be designated on the official transcripts that are sent with the application. Other application essentials include three letters of recommendation and Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores.

Online Master of Accounting Programs in Wyoming

At this time, there are no accredited online graduate programs with an accounting discipline in the state of Wyoming. As an alternative, students may consider the Master of Business Administration that is offered by the University of Wyoming. This program is geared toward individuals that need part-time enrollment while working, and it can be completed in a two-year time span.

30 credit hours are needed to complete this degree, with courses in Financial Accounting Managerial Accounting, Decision Modeling, and Business Research Methods. Students will pursue the program in a cohort and there are no requirements to come to campus.
