University of Massachusetts-Lowell - Master of Science in Accounting

The Manning School of Business offers an Master's degree in accounting either on-campus in Lowell or completely online. Both programs are not identical to each other, but meet the same requirement needs with 30 credit hours. Taking the on-campus program provides a specific pathway to General Accounting, Business Analytics, Corporate Accounting Leadership, and International Business. With either choice, students will be prepared to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. Students that have taken the undergraduate program at UMass Lowell and finished with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, they can earn the Master's degree with an additional year.

In order to gain entry into the program, prospective students should hold a Bachelor's degree in accounting and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Other submissions needed are a personal essay that highlights accomplishments in the classroom and future career goals, updated resume, and three letters of recommendation. The school does offer graduate assistantships that helps students lower the cost of their tuition and gain professional experience, and these are given to those showing the highest academic merit.

Suffolk University - Master of Science in Accounting

The Sawyer Business School in Boston also has an online program that can fully be completed away from campus. Concentrations to choose from are Business Intelligence, Corporate Finance and Accounting, and Forensic Accounting. Each course in the curriculum will be completed in seven-week increments, and students should be able to complete the program within two years regardless of concentration. Graduates have moved on to high-level positions at the Big Four accounting firm and with the Internal Revenue Service.

Another option is pursuing the concentration of Accounting Principles through the Master of Business Administration. Similar to the other Master's degree, this will prepare students for the Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant exams. The curriculum consists of education within the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and it will help students understand the duties and responsibilities of an accountant. This includes analyzing financial statements and records, organizing budgets for the organization, and dealing with regulation at the governmental level.

University of Massachusetts-Amherst – Master of Science in Accounting

At the Isenberg School of Management, students are able to pursue higher education and prepare for the CPA exam in order to get an edge in career opportunities. The program requires 30 credit hours and can be completed either on-campus at Amherst or completely online. While the online version allows for more flexibility in a self-paced format, the program can be completed in just two semesters. Examples of courses available in the program include Financial Statement Analysis, Taxes and Business Decisions, and Exploring Data Analytics for Accounting Principles.

For those that do not have prior coursework in accounting, they can complete these prerequisites by taking a transitions program. This also eliminates the need to submit a GRE or GMAT score in the admission process. Students are able to take the supplemental courses in the fall or spring. Western New England University – Master of Science in Accounting

The Master of Science in Accounting offers a 30-credit program that splits courses up into 11-week terms in quarterly segments across a calendar year. There is a specialization in Forensic Accounting and Fraud Investigation that is worth nine credits and customizes the program to offer more education in auditing and security when it comes to accountancy. Courses are distributed through the Kodiak learning management system, and it is self-paced. There is no offline component for the program. Students that complete this program will be prepared to take a CPA exam in the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Unlike some of the other Master’s degrees in the accounting field, there is no need to hold a Bachelor’s degree when applying.
