AACSB-Accredited Accounting Programs in Kentucky
There are eight universities across the state of Kentucky that hold a business accreditation by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Of those schools, three of them have an additional designation in accounting: University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and Western Kentucky University. No specific Master's degrees in accounting have a full online program, but a handful provide an online Master of Business Administration with accounting courses.
University of Kentucky - Master of Science in Accounting
The Gatton College of Business and Economics has a few opportunities to gain higher education in accounting, including the Master of Science in Accounting and the online Master of Business Administration. This program does prepare people to take and pass the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam, where there was a 95 percent pass rate from the class of 2019.
30 credit hours are needed to complete the program for those that have undergraduate accounting education. This curriculum can be completed in less than one year, while those that need additional foundational accounting courses will need approximately 14 months. With this feature, students from any undergraduate discipline can apply and complete this degree if they meet other admission requirements.
Eight courses are required in the program, with examples being Research in Accounting Theory, Understanding Financial Statements, and Enterprise Information and Control Systems. Two additional courses are electives chosen by the student to customize their degrees, and one course must be at the 600 level or higher. In addition to the high CPA exam pass rate, at least 95 percent of graduates have job placement after completing the program.
Minimum requirements for admission include the completion of a Bachelor's degree with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. Prerequisite courses needed include two levels of intermediate accounting, auditing, and income taxation. Other needs include official transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and an essay on why the prospective student is choosing to study at the University of Kentucky.

Western Kentucky University - Master of Accounting
Through the Gordon Ford College of Business, students can pursue a Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program. 30 total credit hours are needed to complete the program, and 18 credits are reserved for accounting courses. More courses will be needed for those that do not have an educational background in accounting and/or general business.
Examples of accounting courses that students will take include Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting, Special Topics in Tax Research and Planning, and Advanced Auditing Standards, Applications, and Fraud. The remainder of the curriculum will have electives offered by the college and must be approved by the department.
The Accounting JUMP Program offers high school graduates the ability to complete both the Bachelor of Science in Accounting and the MAcc. This provides an opportunity for students to begin the MAcc during the senior year of their Bachelor's degree and a grade of C or higher need to be achieved in most accounting courses. The GMAT requirement will be waived for the Master's degree admission in this process.
Benefits of taking this program at WKU include being part of a Meet the Recruiters Night where students will network with the Big Four accounting firms and some regional organizations, such as Parker, Parker, and Associates, State of Kentucky Auditor of Public Accountants, and Fruit of the Loom. The accounting program does prepare students for the CPA exam for state licensure.

Online Master of Accounting Programs in Kentucky
University of Louisville – Master of Business Administration
The College of Business has many variations of the MBA, including an online version that is fully completed away from campus. This version is geared toward professionals that will continue to work while maintaining their degree. 45 credit hours are needed to complete the program, which requires five semesters or approximately 20 months.
Students have the option to complete a 10-day study trip overseas in two countries, which is included in the tuition of the program. Those that accept international study will have to pay for airfare and most of the dinners throughout the experience. These locations will vary in the month of May and have previously included China and Taiwan, India and United Arab Emirates, and South Africa.
While there are no specific accounting concentrations in the program, students can take courses such as Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, and Contemporary Financial Management. These are part of the core curriculum, which combines other aspects of business management to provide additional overall skills instead of more specific accounting topics.
Admission requirements include two letters of recommendation, professional resume, two-page personal statement, and official transcripts. There is no Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores needed when applying to the program. Recommended for those that have lower than a 3.5 GPA from a prior AACSB-accredited undergraduate degree, but waived for students with higher scores.
Morehead State University – Master of Business Administration
The School of Business Administration has an MBA program that is available online and at the Morehead campus. This program is geared toward working professionals that have educational experience in a business discipline, and holding the proper prerequisites only requires 30 credit hours to be completed. Students have an ability to pursue the Health Systems Management concentration, which requires an additional six credit hours.
Program goals for students include the ability to analyze situations with the ethical education they have gained, and understand organizational problems and develop an informed decision method to solve them. This program will have a technological advantage and students will gain strong leadership and communication skills within the curriculum.
Seven courses are required for all students, including Accounting Analysis for Decision Making. Elective opportunities to complete the program include Financial Accounting, Emerging Issues in Management Accounting, and Auditing Applications. There are a large amount of courses available as electives, and students should review what options can be pursued in an online format.
Admission requirements include having at least a Bachelor’s degree from an AACSB-accredited university with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and proper GMAT and/or GRE scores that are set by the department. Students with at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA are eligible to have a waiver for their test scores. A cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher will be needed throughout the program to receive the degree.
