Ohio University

Master of Accountancy

One of the biggest and only fully online programs dedicated accountancy is the MAcc degree offered by Ohio University. This is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and there are three paths to take based on previous coursework. For those having an undergraduate degree in accounting, students can take the accelerated accounting path that requires just 30 credit hours to complete. For those in the business field, they will take the business path that has 42 credit hours to complete, and non-business degrees will have 45 credits to finish.

The additional credits for the two latter tracks includes an Accounting Bridge, which has four courses that have advanced and executive accounting subjects. Those that do not have any business background should focus on general accounting and business topics, while those that do have a degree in accounting and business are recommended to take a data analytics track. This provides a data-driven element for more job opportunities dealing with analyzing big data.

When applying to the program, there are no GMAT or GRE scores required and the curriculum begins in the fall, spring, or summer. Required admissions include a Bachelor's degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, official transcripts, updated resume, personal statement, and three letters of recommendation. For those taking the accelerated track, this can take around five semesters to complete, with others taking at least seven semesters.

Bowling Green University

Online and Professional Master of Business Administration

BGSU offers an Online MBA program with a concentration within Accounting. The program can be completed within a year with 30 total credit hours needed. The curriculum can be used to prepare for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and students will be educated in utilizing information systems to make data-driven decisions, following rules and regulations while auditing, and having a deeper understanding in leadership and communication in order to lead a group of people. Some of the elective options to choose from within accounting are Investment Analysis and Management, Quantitative Analysis for Managers, and International Financial Management.

An alternative option is the PMBA program through BGSU, which is geared toward working professionals that are looking to advance in their career or are making a specific job change. The curriculum, accredited by the AACSB, can be completed within two years while completing courses part-time. These courses are available at the Perrysburg and Findlay campuses or in a blended format with on-campus and online courses. Those that utilize the physical format of these courses will be meeting once per week for three hours, and online courses can be picked up at anytime it is convenient.

University of Toledo

Master of Science in Accountancy

The Department of Accounting offers an MSA degree that is pursued on-campus and can be finished within a year of study (nine months specifically for full-time students). There are 10 total courses, or 30 credit hours, needed to fulfill the degree. For working professionals, there is flexibility to take night classes or a mixture of physical and online classes when available. Some of the courses that students will take include Financial Contemporary Problems, Research in Accounting and Taxation, Fraud and Forensic Accounting, and Information Technology and E-Business.

Admission requirements include a four-year Bachelor’s degree and a 2.7 cumulative GPA. Those with a lower GPA or looking to graduate with a dual degree will need to submit GRE scores within the last five years. Official transcripts are also needed and there is a recommendation to submit at least one letter of recommendation. There is a 100 percent job placement rate for graduates within a year after completing the program, and those have taken job opportunities at Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Thomas Reuters.

Wright State University

Master of Business Administration – Finance

The Raj Soin College of Business offers an online MBA program that has many concentrations, one of them being in Finance. All foundational courses are available each semester and select concentration courses are available in alternative terms. There is an ability to mix online courses with those available on-campus in Dayton. The financing curriculum will deal with an overview of corporate financial management, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate investment.

In order to get admitted into the MBA program, students will need to have a four-year Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with at least a 2.7 GPA, or 3.0 GPA for regular admission. Graduate degree GPAs can be used in lieu of undergraduate GPA scores. Other submissions needed are GMAT scores of at least 400 or similar GRE scores, academic transcripts and official proof of the degree. Up to 12 credit hours can be used toward transfer credit and can only be used from AACSB-accredited schools.

Two of the most popular accreditations that prospective students will run into when reviewing schools to choose from in Ohio are the worldwide-recognized AACSB that focuses on Master’s degrees and the regional NCA-HLC that focuses on schools in the North and Midwest portions of the United States.

Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)

Founded in 1916, this accreditation service focuses on business schools that are not-for-profit. There is a newer specialized accreditation in accounting directly, which has been given to 182 different schools. At least 13 schools specifically are accredited within Ohio, and they include the above schools along with the School of Business Administration at the University of Dayton and the Ahuja College of Business at Cleveland State University

North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission (NCA-HLC)

Ohio is one of the many states that this regional-based organization oversees when reviewing higher education. Criteria to become accredited includes having an approved mission statement, how it will continue to fulfill their goals in the future, and showcasing student success through their faculty and resources. All education programs that are accredited will usually be approved for a span of four years until they have to reapply for another look and submit ongoing efforts to improve and how they are still striving toward their goals.

JP Morgan Chase, Deloitte, and Nationwide are some of the most represented companies. Mid-level accounting professions in the state will range between $69,793 to $85,473 according to Salary.com, which are those that have multiple years of experience and have completed a Master’s degree. Cleveland, which offers the most accounting opportunities, generally has the largest average salary of $78,349, and this is similar in Lakewood, Rocky River, and Independence. Some specialized opportunities, like a financial reporting accountant at this level, will see higher salary marks.
