Ball State University - Master of Science in Accounting

The Miller College of Business provides an accounting-focused degree that blends the business aspect with data and statistical analytics. Students have the ability to take either path as a focus - Professional Accounting or Research and Analytics. Regardless of decision, the curriculum requires 30 credit hours to complete. Up to six credits can count toward courses outside the Department of Accounting should they be approved by the program director. Under the Research and Analytics concentration, there must be one accounting elective taken.

Gaining entry into the program requires background in the field of accounting or a related business discipline. Those that do not fulfill these needs will have to pursue courses such as Corporation Finance, Survey of Business Law, and Managing Organizational Behavior. Students are accepted into the program in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Other requirements include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with at least a 2.75 GPA and GMAT scores that have been active for the last six years.

University of Notre Dame - Master of Science in Accountancy

The Mendoza College of Business offers one of the top MSA countries in the state and will prepare students for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam. Duration of the program is around 10 months and can only be completed on the Notre Dame campus. Full-time enrollment is required, but only two semesters will be needed and there are many clubs and societies to join while pursuing the degree. Students can choose between two concentrations: Assurance and Advisory Services, and Tax Services. There is also an opportunity to study abroad for a two-week duration.

Students have the option of being administered into the program either in the fall or spring semesters. Prerequisite courses needed prior to jumping into the curriculum includes financial, managerial, and intermediate accounting, auditing and assurance, and federal taxation. Graduates from this program have been employed at the Big Four accounting firms, such as Deloitte and KPMG. 43 percent of graduates from the Class of 2019 remained in the Midwest region with the second-highest contingent moving to the Northeast.

Online Master of Accounting Programs in Indiana

Indiana University-Bloomington – Master of Science in Accounting

Students can pursue the Master’s program fully online with a partnership between the Kelley School of Business and the edX educational platform. This is a 30-credit hour program that will take between 21 to 36 months to finish and consists of course subjects like auditing, tax planning, and there is some data analysis. Students are able to complete the program in a self-paced style. In many situations, this degree will help those that are looking to take the CPA exam, and graduates have taken job positions as accounting managers, financial analysts, and internal auditors.

In order to get admitted into the program, students should have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, and they will need to submit a personal statement, updated resume, at least one letter of recommendation, transcripts, and GRE or GMAT scores unless the student has at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and two years of professional experience.

A prerequisite course that dives into accounting principles must be completed prior to pursuing the degree. Students looking for more of a certification approach can pursue the edX MicroMasters program that offers Financial Reporting, Managerial Accounting and Corporate Control, and Taxes and Decision Making. These can count toward credit if students pursue the degree later.

Southern Indiana University – Master of Business Administration

The Romain College of Business has an MBA program with numerous concentrations, and the focus in Accounting will help students gain the skills needed to create and analyze financial statements, auditing processes, and rules and regulations in accounting methods. They will be able to make decisions using quantitative and qualitative methods, and they will be more aware of ethical and legal standards. Courses can only be repeated one time and they must retain at least a 3.0 GPA in order to continue into the program.

Students are able to complete this program while continuing their professional career. Courses are available both on-campus and online, and those meeting in person will be attending evening sessions. Students wishing to pursue through the program quickly have the option of taking courses in the summer. Examples of courses directly catered to the Accounting concentration include Financial Statement Analysis, Seminar in Accounting, and Accounting Regulation and Compliance. Seven other core courses are needed to complete the program.
