Loyola University of Maryland - Master of Accounting
The Sellinger School of Business offers a Master's degree in the field of accounting. This can be completed at the Baltimore location in as little as 10 months. Students have the ability to gain general knowledge in accounting or pursue a specialization in Data Analytics or Taxation.
Curriculum format differs slightly among the different concentrations available and if the student chooses to complete an internship. The concentration will have three dedicated courses with varying opportunities. As an example, the Tax specialization has courses in Tax Research, Individual Tax, and a general business elective chosen by the student.
Prerequisite courses for the program include financial, managerial, and intermediate accounting topics, along with knowledge in corporate taxation and auditing processes. Some courses will have online availability, but the program overall must be completed on campus. Students should maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to gain their diploma.
Admission submission needs include the completion of an application with fee, a personal statement on why the prospective student has chosen this university to pursue accounting education, updated resume, and one letter of recommendation from an academic or professional expert. Students gaining undergraduate education at LUM or an affiliate college may consider the fast track admission process.

University of Maryland - Master of Science in Accounting
The Robert H. Smith School of Business offers a full Master's degree in accounting, preparing students for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam and jobs at some of the top accounting firms in the nation. Students have the ability to specialize their curriculum with courses in Audit Analytics, Public Accounting, and Tax Analytics.
Throughout the curriculum, students will be discovering how to utilize big data to analyze financial information and make smart long-term decisions for businesses. They will be able to efficiently produce financial statements and communicate with others to verify accuracy on transactions. For the auditing specialization, students will gain the skills needed to use specific software, and strong ethical and legal knowledge.
Between two to four semesters are needed to complete the program, and this length depends on how much background in accounting the student has. Any courses that the student does not need to take from prior experience can be replaced with an elective if needed. There is no ability to transfer credits into the Master's degree in accounting.
All classes for the accounting degree are held at the College Park campus. For a more flexible alternative, students can consider the online Master of Business Administration, which is also accredited. There is a specialization in accounting along with related core courses, such as Financial Accounting and Managerial Accounting.

Online Master of Accounting Programs in Maryland
Towson University – Master of Science in Accounting and Business Advisory Services
The Department of Accounting offers a unique Master’s degree that for accounting and advisory services that is available online and accredited by the AACSB. This program will satisfy the academic requirements for the CPA exam in the state of Maryland and various other locations. Students will need to review their own state criteria to determine if the program will satisfy their needs.
This program is in conjunction with the University of Baltimore and is completed in both locations. Online courses will be distributed by faculty members at both institutions, and courses at UB will run in two different session timeframes. Students at Towson University will have specific requirements in order to take courses at UB.
Goals for the program include preparing students for analyzing statistical information from financial activity and skills needed to use certain software. They will be able to write clearly detailed reports when needed and present this information to other workers in the organization or with clients. Students should be proficient in legal and ethical issues in accounting and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act.
Admission requirements include having a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Those that have above a 2.75 GPA can get in under a conditional status. Needs for the program include the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores, but these can be waived for prospective students that have a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Frostburg State University – Master of Business Administration
The MBA at Frostburg State University is an AACSB-accredited program with concentrations in Business Analytics, Health Care Management, and Management. This is a 36-credit hour curriculum for experienced students that can be completed on a full-time or part-time basis. With both a business undergraduate degree and full-time potential, this program can be completed in just one year.
Out of the 12 total courses that are taken at minimum, eight courses are in the core portion and the remaining four are the concentration selected. Examples of students that can take core courses include Financial Management, Foundations of Analytics, and Strategic Planning. Courses are delivered in a seven-week accelerated format where students can have more focus on specific topics.
For students to have a successful admission process, they will need to submit an application online with fee, official transcripts that show the completion of an accredited undergraduate degree, and GMAT or GRE test scores. There are possibilities to get a waiver for the test scores, including a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher with no work experience, or 2.75 or higher with at least five years of work experience.
Students with the ability to earn a Bachelor’s degree in accounting can pursue the combination BSA-MBA program where a total of 153 credit hours are completed in five years. This eliminates a few course requirements of the MBA and students will only need 30 credits. Those looking to take the CPA examination will have a program that satisfies the academic requirements.
